Project 52 (Moms Who Click)

Wk 6 is "breakfast". My favorite breakfast on the weekend is steel cut oatmeal with raisins, Splenda brown sugar and milk. I make enough to put in the fridge to reheat throughout the wk for breakfast. Tomorrow I'm going to add half an apple (chopped) to help fill me up and doesn't cost any extra WW points, keeping the breakfast at 7 pts.

New Year's Eve

I started the new year off being sick so have not been on top of things these last few wks. I never shared an image from our New Year's Eve with Jack & Brenna. I was sick but tried to keep my sick germs to myself. We had lots of good appies and played some games. Learned a new card game but unfortunately my sick rattled brain doesn't remember how to play it now LOL We taught Brenna how to play Euchre but don't know if she remembers the rules so will have to give it a try again soon.

Now that I am feeling better I am anxious to get started with my New Year's resolution....LESS.

By this, I mean less clutter, less stress, less junk food...you get the drift, right?

The first two steps are to get my (back) taxes taken care of and organize my scrap room, paring down the supplies to what I really want and getting rid of the excess. I think I'll put together some stuff and sell it off on Craigs List soon.

TOPIC: Around The House

Sandy's been a couch potato. She exerted herself too much on a hike last wkend so her hips and back legs were sore this week. She pretty much claimed the couch all week, resting up and napping a lot. We took her into the vet today and got some anti-inflammatories for her so she should be feeling pretty perky in a few more days.

Project 52 Macro

I want to challenge myself to use my macro lens and tubes more so have joined a project 52 group which has a weekly theme. For this shot, I put water and oil in a clear bowl and got up nice and close with my macro lens. I put a piece of patterned pattern underneath to add more color.

South Beach Phase 1 egg muffins

On phase 1 of the South Beach diet I can eat these quiche-like muffins that have no flour in them. I made them up on Saturday and keep them in the fridge, popping one into the microwave for a minute to warm up for breakfast or when I need an afternoon snack. They are less than 100 calories. YUM!

* 1/2 cup Egg Substitute or egg whites
* 2 Eggs
* 10 oz of Frozen Spinach
* 8 oz Cheese, Cheddar, low fat
* 1 green or red pepper, diced
* 2 slices Turkey Bacon, diced
* 1 tsp Hot Sauce
* 1/4 tsp Seasoning (garlic, onion, etc)

Pat frozen spinach with paper towels to soak up some of the excess water. Cook bacon, add peppers and then cool. Mix all ingred together. Spray foil cups and bake 350 for 30 minutes. I like the foil cups b/c I found the muffins stuck to the paper lining a bit.

Change Is A Good Thing

My life has changed so much over this past year. Although I'm still paper scrapping, I have started digi scrapping too, along with continuing to create cards. Having dabbled a bit years ago, this year I once again took up knitting and crocheting (mostly to create baby stuff for props in my photography biz) and have become more diligent with my health, exercising and trying to develop a healthy eating plan, recently starting the South Beach diet. Although my photography biz has grown over the past few yrs, I still find time to enjoy photography as a hobby for myself, enjoying macro, landscape and photo-journalistic images of my life, my family.

Now this blog will more widely reflect those interests, sharing my projects and personal, family photos.
I'll be chatting about my weight loss journey and sharing recipes too. I hope you'll continue to follow along and visit often!

Brenna & I were cropping last night and even though we chatted non-stop throughout the night, I managed to create my first Xmas card of the year and got some diecuts punched out for a Xmas tag swap I'm in.

We've been at our trailer in Washington during our holidays and spent some time learning how to crochet (again). Many yrs ago (pre-scrapbook days), I used to spend hours crocheting and knitting dishcloths. I never did anything too complicated or detailed but I was familiar with the basics. I bought a handy laminated fold-up booklet from Joanns to refer to when reading the patterns and was able to muddle my way thru a few baby hat patterns. These will be used in upcoming newborn/toddler photography sessions. I will be creating matching diaper covers too.

Here's a few cards I made while out scrapping with my daughter & granddaughter. We don't often get a chance to hang out together and scrap so this was a fun night and I hope we don't have to wait too long to do it again. I created these cards, Jen worked on her calendar and Bailey created a mini album. The 1st card was based on sketch #161 over at CPS. The 2nd card was created for the sketch over at Mojo Monday.

Thanks to Jessie at Cherish The Thought who suggested I color in the bird sticker with Satura pens and waterbrush. I didn't have my Sakura pens with me but I did have some mica pens which worked. It doesn't show well on the photo but the bird has a nice sparkly sheen to it as do the cut out letters "Easter".

Only got one card created today at the Scrapaholics Crop but did have a lot of fun chatting with my friends. I also got my circle journal entry completed. I really enjoy the friendships and inspiration from the gals. We always have a great time together!

Got some cards created today at the crop. I missed my scrapping buddies and really enjoyed hanging out and chatting. The last card has a super cute flower on it that I was able to create thanks to the uber-talented Jo who showed me how to makes these today. I even used my Copic markers (the little birdie). I won one of the draws and the prize was some glue dots which was awesome b/c who doesn't always need more glue dots, right? They will definitely get used. The day went by too quickly and before I knew it, it was time to head home and meet up with hubby at my daughter's home to finish watching the hockey. By that time it was too late to cook anything so made a stop at Wendy's for some chili and chicken for a quick (semi-healthy) dinner.

Our theme for January is "Love is In The Air".

These days I'm all about getting my cards and layouts created with a minimum of supplies in a minimal amount of time without sacrificing style or creativity. I used some scrap paper and stamped, punched or diecut all the elements with the exception of the bling and ribbon. Each card took about 10 minutes to create. The most time consuming part was the cutting out of some of the pieces which I didn't mind b/c I love to cut (paper that is...not myself LOL). I hope my cards inspire you to create a card for someone you love and feel free to scraplift my designs if you wish. Hope you leave me some love (in the comments) and I'll enter you into a draw for a Valentine's card kit that will include some precut paper, elements and ribbon. Another One Wrapped

This is becoming addicting. I am having so much fun with my glue gun and craft paper. I double wrapped the yarn around and frayed the edges, then tied on a bit of tulle with a digi tag hanging off of it.

First Gift Wrapped

The first gift is wrapped. I decided to do handmade gift wrapping this year. I used craft paper, yarn and a tulle-like ribbon that I bought in bulk so I have more than enough to do all my gifts and have lots left over. I also got pale gold yarn and gold tulle. I printed off digi xmas images and will write the names on the other side. This wasn't my idea, it is a variation of what my online photog friend, Heather, did with her gifts. She made pompoms for her gifts but I'm pompom challenged so this worked better for me and wasn't as time consuming.

I have been busy here trying to organize and clean so haven't really gotten in the "creating" stage yet but I'm getting there. Right now I'm sorting thru what I want to keep out, what to store away and what to get rid of altogether. I in definitely in de-clutter mode right now. I am almost finished it and then after that maybe I'll feel like creating a LO...boy, its been awhile since I've done one and I want to get a bunch of my photos scrapped so I need to my mojo going soon for scrapping.

Did this one up a few wks ago while at our trailer. I colored the creatures with Copic pens (love em) and cut them out to pop dot onto the card. I haven't had a chance to create anything these past few wks and don't expect to have any time during my next holiday either. I need to get a few baby hats made and need to re-read (for the hundredth time) my camera manual so I'm prepared for photog school in September. Plus, I want to watch a bunch of movies and catch up on shows I've been downloading so I'm ready for the fall tv season of some my fave shows, like Heroes, Lie To Me, CSI and Law & Order. Once I get back in September I'll be ready to jump right back into scrapping again but this little break will be much needed to recharge my batteries, so to speak, and relax.This wk I've started a Tess Gerritsen book (forget the title at the moment) and am really enjoying it. Other than photog and photoshop manuals, I haven't been reading as many books as I normally do this summer. While at the trailer I plan to sit outside in an adirondack chair, my feet up on an ottoman and finish this book and maybe even another. The plan for this holiday is RELAXATION. Its my last holiday til next yr so I need to make the most of it! So bfn...I'll be back in Sept after the long wkend.

I had fun creating this card. I have been really getting into creating cost efficient cards that use mostly paper and stamps without a lot of embellishments. For this one I stamped and cut out the gift box and three balloons which I colored and popdotted. Instead of my usual 4.25x5.5 size I created a 5x5. I found some 5x5 envelopes this summer in Bellingham at a store that was going out of business but hope to find another store with good prices so I can stock up. I am really starting to like the square size cards.

This card was so easy and fast. The longest part was cutting out the two circles with my Coluzzle (love that thing) which took about 2 minutes. So, in about 10 minutes I had this card done up. The "happy" I stamped with brown ink and the "birthday" I stamped with black ink. I stapled the "to you" to the bottom of the circle. I punched out two photo corners (EK punch) and then distressed all edges with brown chalk ink.

I didn't scrap much. Last wk it was just too friggin hot! 104 is just too much for me. I spent most days in the mall and most nights in the casino. When I was at the trailer I spent most of my time lying on the floor with frozen washcloths lying on my head while I watched tv. This wk cooled off tho and was much nicer. I got a couple of cards created while watching the finale of So You Think You Can Dance. I was thrilled with the winner...she had been my pick all along. I'm doing laundry and settling back into being home again. I'll post some more cards over the wkend.

Here's another card I did up while at our trailer last wkend. I popdotted the cutout butterflies and the sentiment. I love the little itty bitty flower beside the tree; it is from Paper Salon. This clear stamp set comes in a tin with a clear lid to see the stamps inside. I think this is a great way to package them.

While at the trailer I did up this card. The most time consuming part was the cutting out of the butterfly but other than that it came together quickly. I bring limited supplies with me when I travel and I think that can be a good thing b/c it limits my choices of supplies and paper so I tend to make simpler, faster cards and that is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Ta-Da..Finally Finished My First Hat

I completed my first hat made on the Knifty Knitter. Its certainly not perfect, if you look closely you can see that my tension was not even but that makes my hat look unique, right? LOL I didn't bring the bottom up to make a brim (I'll do that on my next hat) as I saw that in the instructions after I had passed that point. My pompom turned out harder to make than I thought it would be or am I just pompom-impaired??? It is oversized for the hat and I debated whether to cut it down to proportion but then I decided, what the heck, leave it funky looking with the bigger sized pompom b/c I think its going to look soooo cute on a little teeny tiny head, don't ya think? Now I just need a little one to get photos with this on.

Way Too Hot To Scrap

It's been way too hot these past few days to scrap. My brain has over-heated and I'm just really sluggish. I'm hoping to finish up my first baby hat with the Knifty Knitter and I will post a pic on Sunday night when I return from our trailer. I have a LO and a card on the go and will finish that up after the wkend and post it. So look for some posts early next wk but for the wkend...nothing going on. Hope you're handling the heat well and keeping cool somehow.

Recipe Swap

This was my swap recipe for Scrapaholics this month. I did a hybrid digi layout using a punched out flower embellishment, centre piece was a punched circle from metallic paper and a brad in the centre. I computer typed and cut out strips with preheat, grease & bake glued overtop. BTW, this is a really good recipe so if you can see it clearly enough to read it, go ahead and try it; I bet you'll love it like we do.

Ever Forget To Sign Your Card?

I created this card for Courtney's birthday and when she opened the card yesterday it was blank LOL I had forgotten to sign it. Gee, in all my years of card giving, I've never done that before! We all laughed about it and I said she could remove or add overtop of her name with someone else's for another time and be able to recycle the card :)

Finished a LO by Midnight Tonight

Finished this hybrid LO just before midnight and my eyes are getting droopy so it must be time to go to bed. In photoshop I put house and tree onto white cs and then printed out bird separately so I could cut it out. I created the journal strip in photoshop, printed and cut out. Used some old Scenic Route pp and my fave alpha stickers by MM along with a "HOPE" stamp. The bird has gold Stickles and is popdotted over the tree.

Simplicity

I think the color combo is just great and I love that this could be put together so quickly. I've had that odd shaped punch from Stampin Up for a long time and hardly ever use it. Punching out the shapes made this card come together so much quicker but if you didn't have punch, you could certainly hand-cut the shapes.

Scrapped A Layout About My Scrap Room

I love creating LOs that show photos of my scrap room. Every couple of yrs I change things around so its nice to have some memories of how things looked. It seems funny to have a photo of me in it too. I am usually the one taking the photo. This was taken by my hubby so I could use it for the Paper Passions crop challenge which is still ongoing this wk.

Weekend Flew By

What a busy wkend. Friday night I organized my scrap room after hanging out at POTP for Brenna's birthday and Saturday I ran errands and hit a bunch of dollar stores to see what I could find. I found some more buttons and bling for a great price. Sat evening I spent trying to edit and print photos but had problems with the computer and printer but by the end of the night it was all working...whew...did not want to have to deal with that kind of stuff right now. Sunday I got a few things done for online crops and then Jen & Bailey came to scrap with me. We spent more time talking and less time scrapping but it was fun. I started a LO that just needs to be journaled and a few final touches to be complete. Gee, now it's Monday. Time flies.

I thought it was fitting to post this photo of a toothache tree, according to old folklore. I had an extraction today and am not feeling too perky. Had an infected tooth which was quite achy so today it got pulled out....ouch! I sure hope it feels better tomorrow. I`m spending a quiet night with the tv and hope tomorrow is more productive. I need to get started on a Mom`s Day project and get some Mom`s Day cards done too.

Used Another Handmade Flower For A Card

Making these flowers has become so addicting LOL! Here's another one that I used for a card I did yesterday at the crop. It was a bit of a drive to get out to Chilliwack but we had a lot of fun. There were a super group of women out there and I met a lady at the table next to us that also has a trailer at Black Mountain. Sometimes it just seems like such a small world!

Used a die to cute the flower pieces out and layered onto card front. The "hi" was stamped with one of the cheapie Michael's alpha sets and cut out. This was a fast and easy card.

My Die Cut Club Card

Here's the card I created last night. When I got the card home I added some Crystal Effects to the bird, added the title (bud I cut out at the store) and put some bling on the branches. I like how this turned out. That branch die is awesome. Its one of the biggie ones so doesn't fit into my diecut machine unless I buy the extended tray which I'm not about to do at the moment but boy, I just love that branch!

Preparation

I'm off to my die cut club soon and will make a project there that I'll post tomorrow. Other than that, there won't be anything new posted til the wkend b/c I'll be getting ready for my 12 hour crop on Saturday. I have a few challenges from The Shaker Box that I'm going to do on Saturday, one is a card and the other is a layout sketch. I'm also going to do a layout challenge for Artfreckles. If I get all these done then I'm going to work on cards. I'm excited to be bringing my Cuttlebug with me so I can emboss some backgrounds for cards and diecut some embellishments for them too. This is the first time I'm bringing a machine with me b/c before my other diecut machine was too big and heavy but this little Cuttlebug is just the right size for transporting to crops. BTW, for anyone who saw my post before (when I was at typepad), I am loving my Canadian Tire tackle box for my accessory case. It holds everything I need, within easy reach and doesn't take up much more room on the table than my pink bag used to. So it was definitely a good thing to get. For those that missed seeing it before, here it is.

Here's the card I did for a card swap with Scrapaholics. I loosely based it on this weeks sketch with 2sketches4you. You can't really see it in the photo but the flower has a popdotted second layer. I really like these papers from Dream Street. The flowers are stamped and cut out; they are from one of my all time fave Fontwerks sets.

If I can maneuver my way around the road closures in the morning b/c of the Sun Run I'll be heading to an all day crop. I have some sketches I want to do cards for and will post a few later in the day when I get home. Cross your fingers for me that I can find my way there.

I did great at the LSS garage sale today. I made enough to pay for my fee to BC Crop for Kids. It felt good to purge some of my older stash plus I sold 2 diecut machines that I wasn't using anymore and was glad that someone would be putting them to good use.
